CELEBRATING THE INDUSTRY’S BEST OF THE BEST IN LAS VEGAS

BY MICHAEL IMLAY

The SEMA Show represents many things to exhibitors, attendees and media. It’s about business connections; eye-popping vehicle builds and activations; new ideas; demonstrations; and education. But most of all, the Show is about people: passionate individuals whose talent, dedication and innovation make the specialty-equipment industry the exciting $327-billion powerhouse that it is.

There are, of course, standouts among the crowd—those who create smart new products, build spectacular project vehicles and raise the bar for trade professionals through their service and achievements. Throughout Show Week, SEMA spotlights such individuals through a series of awards programs. The following pages recap the Show’s numerous awardees, from those announced at the Industry Honors ceremonies, Thursday night, November 6, to the many other awards bestowed throughout SEMA Week.

“SEMA proudly congratulates all our 2025 SEMA Show awards recipients,” said SEMA CEO Mike Spagnola. “Their dedication to excellence, their innovation and their passion for the industry underscore everything that our association stands for, and we were pleased to highlight their significant contributions to the specialty automotive sector at the 2025 SEMA Show.”

SEMA INDUSTRY HONORS CEREMONIES

Sung Kang

The high point for SEMA Week awards was the SEMA Industry Honors event at Fontainebleau Las Vegas, Thursday night, November 6, a completely new awards-style extravaganza held in the venue’s BleauLive Theater. Actor and filmmaker Sung Kang (right) emceed the event for a sold-out audience.

(A lifelong car enthusiast himself, Kang is best known for his portrayal of Han in “The Fast & The Furious” franchise.) The 2025 ceremonies—which replaced the Show’s traditional awards banquet—featured opening remarks by SEMA Chair of the Board Melanie White and SEMA CEO Mike Spagnola, along with nods to SEMA’s recent Hall of Fame inductees Luanne Brown, George Lathouris, John McLeod and Larry Pacey.

From there, the festivities continued with several other high association honors, culminating in the announcement of the 2025 SEMA Person of the Year and a musical after-party.

Don Garlits

ROBERT E. PETERSEN LIFETIME ACHIEVEMENT AWARD: DON GARLITS

The Petersen Automotive Museum honored drag-racing legend Don Garlits with its lifetime achievement award named for the museum’s late founder, Robert E. Petersen. Garlits, also known as “Big Daddy,” is a true pioneer in the drag-racing field, accumulating 35 NHRA national event victories and three NHRA Top Fuel national championships over his five-decade career.

“Don Garlits set the standard for what a true drag racer could and should be. He is a legend both on and off the dragstrip,” noted Terry L. Karges (above right), Petersen Automotive Museum executive director. National Hot Rod Association Director of Multi-Media Content David Kennedy (above left) co-presented the award.

Lee Zeldin

THE PRESIDENT’S AWARD: LEE ZELDIN

U.S. Environmental Protection Agency Administrator Lee Zeldin (below right) was named the first-ever recipient of the President’s Award for Supporting Automotive Innovation and Leading Government- Industry Collaboration.

A new honor presented earlier in Show Week by SEMA CEO Mike Spagnola (below left), the award recognizes individuals or organizations demonstrating exceptional leadership in advancing automotive technology and fostering strong partnerships between government and industry.

Spagnola hailed Zeldin’s continued role as a catalyst for technological advancement and cooperative problem-solving—helping to ensure the automotive aftermarket’s evolution while benefiting society, industry and the American economy.

Wade Kawasaki

CHAIR SERVICE AWARD: WADE KAWASAKI

Bestowed at the discretion of the SEMA Chair of the Board, the Chair Service Award recognizes outstanding service to the association and the industry. SEMA Chair Melanie White (left) presented the award to former SEMA Chairman of the Board Wade Kawasaki, whose contributions to SEMA span many years.

“His leadership has made a lasting impact on our industry,” noted White. “Most recently, his support and guidance with SEMA PAC have been instrumental in advancing our advocacy efforts… His commitment to our community and his passion for the automotive aftermarket continue to inspire us all.”

GEN-III INNOVATOR OF THE YEAR: ANDRIUS LIŠKUS

The SEMA Gen-III Award recognizes individuals age 40 and younger who demonstrate exceptional innovation within the automotive aftermarket. The award criteria encompasses breakthrough contributions to such areas as technology, business practices and industry trends. Andrius Liškus received the 2025 honors for his revolutionary Electromagnetic (EMA) Damper Test System, which makes advanced damper testing more accessible to race teams, independent developers and workshops. In effect, his solution removes one of the industry’s greatest technical limitations, opening the door to a new generation of agile, high-performance suspension development.

SEMA PERSON OF THE YEAR: DEAN CASE

A catalyst for brand growth and channel success, The AAM Group holds frequent training sessions with its brand partners to identify product features and benefits, while also ensuring their team understands the business models, context and needs of many types of SEMA channel partners and how to serve them.

THE SEMA PRO CUP CHALLENGE: AUTOMOTIVE CONCEPTS

Automotive Concepts (top left), a Minneapolis-based restyler, won the 2025 SEMA PRO Cup Challenge for its accessorized ’25 Ford F-150 SuperCrew restyling package. Presented by the SEMA Professional Restyler Organization (PRO) council, the competition shines a light on new-vehicle accessorization by challenging U.S. restylers to create an accessory package for an OEM new-model vehicle.

The Automotive Concepts SuperCrew showcased golden anniversary graphics celebrating 50 years of the iconic model. Built around the theme “Black Label,” a term typically reserved for the pinnacle of its kind, the truck offered a fresh take on a concept never explored in the restyling space. The “5.0” badging paid homage to the powerful 5.0 Coyote engine under the hood, further emphasizing the vehicle’s performance pedigree. Pictured with the award is Nick Stanley of Champion Auto Systems, sister company to Automotive Concepts.

The competition also saw Auto Additions of Westerville, Ohio, earning the PRO Cup Challenge People’s Choice Award for its customized ‘25 Lexus GX 550, as voted on by SEMA Show attendees. Themed the “Takumi Edition,” the build featured premium accessories from Eastman/Llumar, XPEL, TRI State, Oracle Lighting, Tentative Rago Fab, Avery, Voxx, Luxwood and Katzkin. Inspired by the Japanese concept of Takumi, meaning “artisan,” the theme paid tribute to master craftsmanship, a distinction achieved only after more than 60,000 hours of honing one’s skills. Pictured (bottom left) with the award is Josh Poulson of Auto Additions.

Method Race Wheels was among the brands capturing a Media’s Choice Award for its Method 709 HD (Heavy-Duty) Bead Grip Wheel.

THE 2025
SEMA SHOW

FROM ADVANCED PROPULSION TO CUSTOMIZATION AND CAR CULTURE, THE SHOW DELIVERED A GLOBAL STAGE FOR THE INDUSTRY’S DYNAMISM.
BY SEMA MAGAZINE EDITORS

Throughout four dynamic days in Las Vegas, November 4–7, the annual SEMA Show reiterated its role as the automotive aftermarket’s premier business event. With 150,000 industry professionals, 2,300 exhibiting brands—including 500 first-time participants—and media from 140 countries gathering at the Las Vegas Convention Center (LVCC), the 2025 Show once again delivered an unequaled, concentrated environment for innovation, collaboration and growth.

“The SEMA Show stands as the global hub for automotive innovation and commerce,” said SEMA CEO Mike Spagnola. “It brings together leaders and visionaries to shape strategies that will define the future of mobility and aftermarket growth worldwide.”

Consumer spending on aftermarket accessories reached $52.65 billion in 2024, underscoring the vibrancy of an industry contributing an estimated $337 billion annually to the U.S. economy while supporting more than 1.3 million jobs. And the excitement and power of that industry was on full display at the annual trade gathering, showcasing a sector that continues to thrive and expand worldwide.

“The SEMA Show is a global pop-up marketplace where business and culture intersect,” said Tom Gattuso, SEMA vice president of events. “This year highlighted the industry’s ability to adapt and innovate, from emerging propulsion technologies to next-generation customization trends. By connecting manufacturers, buyers and enthusiasts in one dynamic environment, the Show continues to both shape and reveal the future of automotive performance and personalization.”

Three Key Themes We Observed at the 2025 SEMA Show

By Cristian Gonzalez

TRENDS
UNBOXED

Discerning emerging trends isn’t always easy. New concepts and innovations sometimes require reading between the lines to understand their full significance. At an event like the SEMA Show, you can find thousands of ideas throughout the Las Vegas Convention Center, many representing underlying themes birthed at the Show. That’s the beauty of SEMA. It’s so grand and diverse in scope that it offers multiple perspectives on the trends sweeping the industry.

Innovative builds, inventive marketing strategies, new product designs—these are just some of the trend indicators you might pick up on. But the Show’s breadth and excitement can also pull you in multiple directions. It’s sometimes hard to take it all in. In case you missed some of the noteworthy trends hitting the 2025 Show floor, we have you covered.

Method Cardboard Truck

Among the impressive builds found throughout the West Hall, this display turned more heads and sparked more questions and conversations than the rest.

BEYOND THE BOX

Exhibitors enjoy pushing the envelope at SEMA. They come to introduce new ideas, often promoting their brand and displaying groundbreaking products via an eye-catching vehicle build. The idea, of course, is to stand out in a Show bursting with energy. At the 2025 Show, Method Wheels did so with unique flair.

The company is known for its aggressive yet sleek off-road-intended wheels and bead-lock rims, and yet when attendees made their way to the booth, they couldn’t find a single product on display. Instead, they encountered a large cardboard trophy truck crafted from Method Wheel packaging on a stage hashtagged with #Beyondthebox.

According to Matthew Harris, vice president and general manager of Method’s parent company, Custom Wheelhouse, it was a bold yet well-thought-out strategy that aligned with their goals for the Show. “We were nervous,” admitted Harris. He and his team were going in with an abstract move, not knowing how it would be received.

The strategy paid off big, just the way they hoped. Harris explains, “We had never displayed at SEMA previously and we felt that should we display at SEMA in the future, it would have to be different than what we traditionally saw coming out of the wheel and tire space. The other side of the thought process that went into this was the brand itself and how you differentiate the brand.”

Method has strong ties to the off-road motorsports world, is aligned with racing entities like SCORE International and has connections to some of the category’s top desert racers. The company wanted to deliver a fun concept honoring those partnerships and customers and what they were aiming to build with Method’s products. The team decided their booth display should take the form of the pinnacle of off-road motorsports—the trophy truck. Volt+Steel’s Project Zero Corvette was among the many EVs garnering praise in the Show’s FutureTech section. “We wanted to deliver an experience. We wanted to show them not tell them. And our representation of who we are as a brand through this display was a celebration of off-road motorsports and culture,” says Harris.

Volt+Steel’s Project Zero Corvette was among the many EVs garnering praise in the Show’s FutureTech section.

FAR-REACHING IMPRESSIONS

The Method booth was a true example of outside- the-box thinking that took risks to achieve a specific goal. Companies exhibiting at SEMA frequently come with sales or marketing goals in mind, but Method also wanted its booth to make impressions far beyond the convention center.

In recent years, the SEMA Show has become a true driver of social-media engagement, so the opportunities were firing on all cylinders, thanks to the Show’s growing appeal to younger demographics. The 2025 event saw the online automotive world flooded with social content, tags and posts showcasing the various booths, vehicles and products. This worked to Method’s advantage in accomplishing their SEMA Show mission.

“We didn’t bring product because that wasn’t the message that we were trying to convey,” Harris stated. “[Messaging] was a key component of what we were attempting to do here and having a component that can live beyond the SEMA halls was critical for us. Folks were taking a lot of video and doing interviews with employees at the booth and sharing content that they were developing on the floor. And we were watching, right? Some of these things were being sent to us and we had some visibility.”

While attendees could find Method’s new wheels proudly displayed in the SEMA Show New Products Showcase, Harris and team were primarily focused on promoting and associating the brand with beyond-the-box thinking in a way that inspires people of newer generations, whether they were at the Show or peeking in on it through their viewscreens.

CARLYLE TOOLS

SEMA and the specialty-equipment market have made reaching and inspiring younger consumerenthusiasts a key priority, and the Show has developed a number of features over the past decade to support those efforts. Simultaneously, exhibiting companies have been tailoring their marketing, brand and products for greater appeal especially to Gen Z.

This past Show, Carlyle Tools, NAPA’s in-house tool company, exhibited for the first time under its own name as part of a current rebranding campaign seeking to spark new life into the tool brand. Jessica Diaz, one of the minds behind Carlyle’s rebranding, explained that much of their marketing is focused on grabbing a younger audience’s attention, noting that they spent three years collecting data before rolling out a new black-andgreen brand color scheme that resonated well with young technicians. Diaz and others at Carlyle echoed industry concerns around technician recruiting, and their relaunch and new campaign signaled their intent to help tackle the issue. “One of our major goals was to connect with future technicians and current technicians. We launched an acquisition program where we were able to take them through different stations to learn more about the product and the brand,” said Diaz.

“We understand there’s a technician gap,” she continued, “and we want to remove some of the barriers to entry. Not only with product but also with a financial reward. So our Max Impact Scholarship awards tech students of any age nationwide $2,500 in a fully stocked toolkit. That’s been phenomenal here at the Show. We have been able to speak to a ton of students and also instructors—making sure that we get to spread awareness that if you want to get into this space, Carlyle’s got your back.”

Carlyle Booth

Carlyle’s booth debut created quite the buzz, generating positive impressions with target audiences and capturing new enthusiasts.

Social Media

All over the Show floor, people were taking pictures and videos, further fueling the social-media coverage and engagement that was so prevalent during and even after SEMA Week.

TECHNOLOGIC

Blazin Rodz Suspension

Manufacturers and builders raised the bar and shattered expectations at the 2025 Show, with exceptional product and project builds, as exemplified by Blazin Rodz’s patent-pending suspension system.

Technology progresses at incredible rates, sometimes alarmingly, but the SEMA Show excels at presenting it in digestible ways that encourage adoption. In fact, technological advancements played a large role in the 2025 Show Week, so we spoke with Jim Moore, SEMA vice president of OEM and product development at the SEMA Garage, to help better explain the emerging tech trends we saw on the Show floor.

Moore noted that SEMA has always been a hotbed for craftsmanship and well-engineered builds. This Show, however, members of the aftermarket stepped up their game. The build quality of the 2025 event’s powerful and unique machines was unmatched. Moore sees this as a byproduct of builders having greater access to better build tools, leading to more impressive project vehicles and products.

“Not long ago there was a huge gap between OEM resources and aftermarket resources,” he explained. “We heard things like computer-aided design [CAD] and how OEMs had all this access to cutting-edge design tools. Well, the vast majority of those design tools are now readily available at almost every level… And you’re seeing the acceleration of product development on the floor to the point where there’s an almost invisible level of parity between an OEM bringing out a product and the aftermarket bringing out a product. Both can bring out a product of equal quality and capability.”

Moore went on to address the builds he saw specifically around the FutureTech Studio in Central Hall, which boasted all forms of powertrains and reached into the seven-figure build range. “We had equally as impressive custom builds that were hydrogen internal-combustion platforms. We had a vehicle that launched that’s going to be a $1 million vehicle, where it’s a hybridized front drivetrain. We saw innovation across the entire board of different powertrains. We saw builders using them in ways that really allowed us to continually see and understand how all of our traditional values—and the boundaries of how you can express those values— were just being expanded upon by new drivetrain technology that was integrating with old-school values of hot-rodding, top-level craftsmanship and level of detail on these builds.”

“WE WANTED TO DELIVER AN EXPERIENCE. WE WANTED TO SHOW THEM, NOT TELL THEM.”
Method Box

Method’s grand project for their trophy truck began like many other project builds, with a new Method Wheels box.

Moore also touched on sentiments toward EV builds this year compared to last year and how attendees are now more accepting than in previous years. This could be partially due to the repeal of the EV mandate, he observed. If new technologies aren’t being forced upon people, sentiments can change.

“Driven by the EV mandate [victory], we saw some builders that were really embracing EV and EV conversions. I think there was also more acceptance across the Show floor that EV really can still define all the hallmarks of what is the cultur e of modification and restomodding and things like that. And I think that SEMA’s stance on defeating the EV mandate has actually allowed the market to have a little bit less animosity toward [electrification] because now it feels there’s more of a fair playing ground.”

AI TAKES ROOT

We would be remiss if we did not touch on how embedded artificial intelligence (AI) tech was across the Show floor. More and more companies are seeing the strength AI can bring to their products and services for their customers and industry members.

In fact, New Product Awards went to two particular entries that utilize AI as a significant part of their structure—REVV ADAS and SPARQ. SPARQ is an OBD-II plug-in module that runs diagnostic checks and speaks to you through an AI-operated application on your phone. It essentially gives consumers a personal mechanic with a scanner. REVV ADAS is an AI-powered software platform working as a calibration tool while also building invoices, claims and rates.

Moreover, all through the North Hall, companies offered products with similar concepts: AI-based software meant to streamline processes and/or bridge communication between various parties involved in a shop repair. While AI is nowhere near Kit- or Skynet-level efficiency, it’s a reliable enough tool that brands are offering it, polished and packaged, to better streamline back-office procedures.

With AI-based products becoming more prevalent at SEMA and taking the spotlight through awards, it’s safe to say the AI trend is here to stay in the specialty-equipment market. We look forward to seeing where the themes of beyond-the-box thinking, technology and engagement will drive us in 2026. S

GROWTH: POWERED BY EDUCATION

SEIZE THE MOST FROM YOUR SEMA SHOW WEEK BY UTILIZING THE EVENT’S EDUCATION PROGRAMS

BY CRISTIAN GONZALEZ

SEMA Show attendees seeking to sharpen and tune their knowledge and skills within the industry should explore the many programs offered by SEMA Education. This Show feature comprises courses designed to develop new skills, inform industry members, and foster business strategies in an engaging classroom setting at the Las Vegas Convention Center(LVCC) during Show Week.

Understandably, some attendees may hesitate to leave the Show floor, but SEMA classes and seminars are worth their time in gold, and most are only an hour long, so you can get right back into the action. In addition, several educational experiences and activations can be found in key Show areas, so it’s a good idea to check out the many options. SEMA Education runs a three-day schedule, from Tuesday, November 4, to Thursday, November 6. A full schedule with breakdowns of all the tracks and sessions is available at SEMAShow.com/education.

Additionally, for 2025, SEMA Education returns to its traditional venue in the North Hall, a centralized location easily accessed from any point at the convention center. "It’s going to be a lot easier to get to than last year, and we want to encourage aftermarket attendees as well as exhibitors to come, learn something that can advance their professional and business growth, and leverage that content in the coming year,” says Gary Vigil, SEMA senior manager of professional development, who heads the education program.

Previously, many sessions came with a registration fee. However, “This year, Education is doing something different,” says Vigil. “SEMA has always encouraged learning and self-advancement through education, so this year, we are offering free sessions within our eight tracks to encourage more attendees to take advantage of these educational opportunities.”

EDUCATION TRACKS

Each SEMA-run education session falls under one of eight tracks. These tracks categorize sessions according to subject matter, allowing attendees to more easily find programs that fit their interests. Take a look and see which tracks catch your attention to begin planning your Show education schedule.

  • Aftermarket Updates and Future Trends: An abbreviated track with two thought-provoking sessions, this category offers a fast way to learn about the current state of the specialty-equipment market and the long/short-term impacts of top trends. If you want to give yourself the intellectual tools to understand the automotive aftermarket and see how your business can be affected by future changes, these sessions should not be missed.
  • Emerging and Executive Leadership: Sessions under this track heading cater to current and emerging industry leaders. Returning this year to assist is the Dale Carnegie organization, which will teach attendees how to listen and communicate to a workforce encompassing differing generations. Also, the SEMA Women’s Leadership Symposium returns this year with a new format “designed to empower leaders with the skills, mindset and strategies needed to drive exceptional performance within their teams and organizations.” Explore these and other leadership-development courses offered under this track.
  • Inside the Shop: Trucks, hot rods, off-road vehicles, tires and wheels—whatever you work on, this track is all about what goes on in your shop. In these sessions, panels of technicians, shop managers and builders discuss current trends and challenges you might be contending with in your operations. (Also, be prepared to see big names announced for these panels soon.)
  • Legislative and Regulatory: The Trump Administration has shaken up the California Air Resources Board’s(CARB) and the Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) approach to regulating automotive emissions. These track sessions aim to clarify changes and misconceptions in emissions compliance under a Trump presidency. Discover how to manage risks, ensure compliance and drive business success by hearing from experts from all sides: manufacturers, distributors, retailers and regulators.
  • Sales and Marketing: This track features some of the Show’s most popular education sessions, focused on advancing your business through targeted social-media strategies. Learn how to engage your audience using platforms like Instagram, YouTube and Facebook, and gain insights from top industry sales and marketing experts. Whether you’re looking to generate buzz for your brand or build a marketing plan for your repair shop, there’s a session for you.
  • Small Business Strategy: Find hacks and tools to help you grow your small business with these track programs aimed at small mom-and-pop shops and up-and-coming companies alike. Learn how to leverage AI, cloud computing and entrepreneurial operating systems (EOS), or how to run a functional family business while avoiding a feud. SEMA is always ready to help small businesses take the next step. With 12 sessions available, this is the most comprehensive track in the SEMA Education program and something every small-business owner should consider leveraging.
  • Talent Management: Just as skills and knowledge evolve with the market, so does SEMA Education. Last year, courses under this header were highly popular with attendees, who voiced that they would like to see even more topics. Vigil says the team is always listening to such feedback, and is happy to build on the clear appeal of the talent-management track. “These sessions focus on hiring and retaining young talent in the automotive industry through training, management and motivation,” Vigil explains. “It’s all about turning your team into a well-run machine.”
  • Vehicle Technology: Vehicle technology is becoming increasingly complex, making it tricky to repair, upgrade or modify consumer vehicles. These sessions aim to help aftermarket players stay up-to-date on the latest changes in advanced fuels

SEMA Education sessions are content rich. Be sure to bring a note pad.

These courses keep attendees engaged through qualified instructors who interact with the class, along with hands-on technical sessions. and powertrains, suspension technology, and even advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS).

PARTNERED PROGRAMS

SEMA Education also features tracks in partnership with third-party entities, adding more supporting sessions to the program. These organizations include the Inter-Industry Conference on Auto Collision Repair(I-CAR), Tire Industry Association (TIA) and Society of Collision Repair Specialists (SCRS)—all of which broaden the Show’s range of specialized courses.

I-CAR will host hands-on MIG welding courses, ranging from basic to advanced features as well as courses on safety protocols for working on electric vehicles with high-voltage systems. Additionally, becoming more prevalent in modern vehicles, modifying or repairing these newer cars often requires correctly working with ADAS hardware.

“This training is essential for technicians who want to ensure ADAS-equipped vehicles are repaired accurately, enhancing vehicle safety and restoring critical functions. You’ll leave with practical strategies to diagnose and correct ADAS calibration failures while ensuring compliance with OEM guidelines, ”according to I-CAR. (Be sure to leverage I-CAR’s 2-Course Bundles to save.)

Meanwhile, Show attendees in the wheel and tire industry will find great value in any of the TIA courses. Not only is TIA offering technical programs, but the organization is also leading courses that can help tire retailers protect themselves from liability with a10-step defense outline in the event of customer lawsuits. Plus, TIA seminars will teach attendees how to navigate the current employment market and retain talent in the tire segment.

SCRS programs are densely packed with knowledge and tips for anyone in the collision repair industry, especially if you’re trying to put your business ona path of maximum efficiency, gain an online presence, view incoming trends and technologies and so much more. Register or purchase an SCRS full-series pass before September 26 for significant savings at SEMAShow.com/education.

FIND YOUR COMMUNITY AT THE SEMA SHOW

FIND YOUR COMMUNITY AT THE SEMA SHOW

A LOOK AT THE NETWORKING OPPORTUNITIES THAT AWAIT YOU AT THE 2025 SEMA SHOW, PLUS WAYS TO ENHANCE YOUR EXPERIENCE

BY CRISTIAN GONZALEZ

Everyone can agree it’s been a rollercoaster year for the automotive aftermarket—both domestic and international. Good or bad, high or low, there have been moments blurring the outlook, affecting business leaders’ forecasting and decision-making for their operations.

It’s times like these that SEMA Vice President of Events Tom Gattuso and Trade Show Director Andy Tompkins remind members of the aftermarket that while they navigate challenges, they can also set their businesses on a course for growth while future-proofing them against prospective obstacles.

Navigating this dynamic industry through constantly evolving terrain might seem intimidating, but in challenging times, one thing remains consistent: the annual SEMA Show in Las Vegas is your hub—your port in the storm. At the Show you can network, learn and build both your professional skills and your business to withstand turbulent times and position yourself for the next big opportunity.

“[SEMA] GETS ALL THESE BRIGHT MINDS TOGETHER TO COLLABORATE ON BEST PRACTICES AND IT REALLY HELPS THE ENTIRE INDUSTRY SUCCEED.”

You might be faced with adversity, but we have this opportunity to gather as a unified group,” states Gattuso. “The landscape is constantly changing, and one of the things that the SEMA Show does well is to get all these bright minds together to collaborate on best practices. The Show really helps the entire industry succeed.”

Held at the Las Vegas Convention Center (LVCC), November 4–7, across five product-filled halls, the SEMA Show is “the largest trade show in the country as it represents such a dynamic and diverse industry,” adds Gattuso. Where better to connect with your colleagues, build up your brand and grow than this gathering of more than 2,000 companies and thousands of emerging new products?

Tompkins understands the challenges that small-business owners face and believes the Show represents a smart investment toward business success. “SEMA has always performed and will perform again this year,” he says. “If you succumb to uncertainty, in my own opinion, you’re going to deliver a self-fulfilling prophecy. If you stop investing in yourself, you stop investing in your business. You stop pushing innovation.”

Both Gattuso and Tompkins suggest evaluating your current situation and leveraging the Show to explore new products, trends and innovations. Now is not the time to hunker down and wait for another year. Businesses that take action to form new strategies, partnerships and sales relationships for growth will gain a competitive advantage.

The Show floor is an incubator for new partnerships and connectivity. Be friendly, ask questions and you’ll see how quickly your network grows in four days.

In addition to new product demonstrations, you’ll gain insights into the latest techniques shared by professionals in your industry.

TOOLS OF THE TRADE

While the Show exists to benefit the specialtyequipment market as a whole, how it supports you and your business depends on your approach. With attendance expected to reach more than 160,000, the people you will meet and interact with will hold a wide spectrum of positions: buyers, industry heads, decision-makers, content creators, media figures, educators and more. Leveraging this correctly is going to require the right tools.

Before embarking on your SEMA journey, contemplate your goals. What do you hope to achieve during your time in Vegas? Whether it’s to secure new relationships, strengthen current ones or educate yourself on new skills and trends, planning will put you in the best position to ensure a solid return on investment (ROI), and SEMAShow.com will have everything you need to plan your experience.

There you’ll find Show floorplan and an up-to-date list of attending exhibitors, and starting in September, the My Show Planner feature will also go live. This is your best tool for leveraging the Show before stepping foot in any of the halls. The planner enables you to customize your Show schedule by taking some basic profile information, your must-see exhibitor list, interesting education programs and activations you’d like to attend and then syncing them to your SEMA Show app—creating the ideal itinerary to maximize your time. The Show bot “Bessie” is also available at SEMAShow.com and via text at 833-338-3010 to answer any Show-related questions.

The SEMA Show app is another tool every attendee should download before day one. The app has numerous features and valuable information: floor maps, lists of exhibitor demonstrations, celebrity appearances and more. It is your blueprint and key to everything the Show has to offer. There’s also a scanning tool embedded in the app, allowing you to learn more about items in the New Products Showcase and their exhibitor booth locations; learn feature vehicle build info; and even scan other attendee badges to swap contact information. Whatever your goals, these tools are at your disposal to elevate your experience.

“THIS ENERGY AND FLEXIBILITY OF CONNECTION WILL ENABLE YOU TO CATER YOUR EXPERIENCE TO EXACTLY WHAT SUITS YOU.”

EDUCATION IS EVERYWHERE

The Show offers multiple ways to grow your skills and knowledge in cutting-edge aftermarket tech and automotive trends, notably through SEMA Education, which runs from Tuesday through Thursday. Seminars are offered in a formal, classroom-like (Above) In addition to new product demonstrations, you’ll gain insights into the latest techniques shared by professionals in your industry.

Unveilings occur all around the SEMA Show. Featured tracks include Sales and Marketing, Inside the Shop, Vehicle Technology and more, often through partnerships with such third-party entities as Inter-Industry Conference on Auto Collision Repair (I-CAR), Tire Industry Association (TIA) and Society of Collision Repair Specialists (SCRS).

“The association is committed to helping the industry learn,” says Gattuso with Tompkins adding, “We really try to make learning convenient at the Show, and SEMA Education is just one more access point where you can do it.” Learning is growing, and individual growth promotes market growth.

Whether you’re trying to hone and resharpen a specific skill set or explore a new avenue in the aftermarket, SEMA Education seminars can help you learn while connecting with peers having similar interests and concerns, so seize on that social window. Visit the SEMA Show website for the full schedule and registration. (See also our SEMA Education article on p. 66.)

SEMA Show education also extends beyond the classrooms. It teems in the Show halls, booths and activations. “You can learn in a formal education session or on the Show floor from your colleagues as you’re walking the aisles,” says Gattuso. “But you’re going to come to the Show and walk away with things you didn’t know before you came.”

You might learn a to install a tire more efficiently in the tire section, a new way to diagnose advanced driver-assistance systems (ADAS) at the FutureTech Studio, or improve your wrapping skills in the Restyling & Car Care Accessories section. Skill-honing tips are easily picked up on the Show floor when you least expect it. Open yourself to them. This is the perfect setting to grow and learn, after all.

Not only will you see colleagues demonstrating new ways to install products, but you’ll also see hundreds of new products unveiled at the New Products Showcase (now located in the Lower South Hall). Here, you can learn which new parts, programs and other innovations draw the most attention, then map your way to their exhibitors and interact with the engineers and designers who created them to learn their value to end users.

BEYOND THE TRADE SHOW

Show veterans know that leveraging the SEMA Show involves maximizing its features and activations while also leveraging its destination—Las Vegas. SEMA features a myriad of events to bring people together and celebrate the beating heart of the industry—you.

The first of these events is the Kickoff Breakfast, a true SEMA Week tradition for networking, relationship- building and celebrating innovation with the New Product Awards. These awards go to the most creative and ingenious innovators of the year and give attendees insight into what’s developing in the aftermarket space.

Tompkins says the Kickoff Breakfast “is one of those annual moments where you can see innovation directly through our New Product Awards and hear some high-level knowledge from industry thought leaders. There will be some inspirational moments and an empowering experience with like-minded peers to kickstart the week.”

Adding to the SEMA Week mix Thursday after the Show is the newly formatted SEMA Banquet, now known as the SEMA Industry Honors. This year the event moves to the upscale Fontainebleau Hotel for an inspirational night of entertainment and celebration of accomplished individuals who’ve made great strides in the industry.

The SEMA Show journey ends Friday night at the third annual SEMA Fest. After a long week of business, securing new relationships and immersing yourself in industry insights, the event brings it all home for a night of live music and fast-paced motorsports activations.

Tompkins explains it’s not just a festival but another feature attendees can leverage at the SEMA Show. “It’s really one more chance to connect and extend the Show experience because you’re going to be with your peers together in a casual setting celebrating the industry we all love and build our livelihoods on.”

Gattuso sees SEMA Fest as a way to tie in a changing workforce brought up on shorter messaging lifecycles. “We’ve created these opportunities to come together and share ideas. I don’t even know that you call it networking necessarily, but they’re these unique environments to connect with your peers and the industry. It’s all part of this evolution of not only the SEMA Show but the way the workforce is expecting their business and leisure values to overlap and connect with each other.”

“That’s why we’re building new experiences into this Show. If you utilize them properly, their energy and flexibility of connection will enable you to cater your experience to exactly what suits you,” continues Gattuso. Be sure to register for these events online at SEMAShow.com to be part of the SEMA movement.

If you think your networking window is only open during Show hours, think again. Even when the Show ends each day, attendees still have one more asset to leverage their Show Week: Las Vegas. Take advantage of the destination holding thousands of lounges and dining options from any cuisine you—or, more importantly, your clients and contacts— might prefer. Alternatively, keep your badge on you. Use it as a calling card to other SEMA attendees willing to strike up a conversation over a post-Show drink or meal. “Cocktail napkin conversations” have led to many rewarding ideas and collaborations at SEMA.

SIMPLIFYING YOUR VEGAS TRIP

Granted, planning and experiencing Las Vegas can get intricate and perhaps costly. Flights, lodging, local transportation and food are a part of your SEMA Week investment. To help plan and minimize your overhead so you can focus on strategizing your Show experience, here is a list of resources you can utilize to save time and money for maximum ROI.

  • EXCLUSIVE AIRFARE SAVINGS: SEMA has partnered with Alaska, United and Delta Airlines so SEMA Showgoers can enjoy the best airfare prices for SEMA Week. Use these codes to save on your team’s flights.
    • Alaska Airlines Online Discount Code: ECMO139 for 7% off published fares for travel dates October 31 - November 8, 2025.
    • Delta Airlines Phone Meeting Network 800-328-1111; Meeting Code: NY3RX
    • United Airlines Online Discount Code: ZPKE658685 for 2% up to 10% off Travel dates October 30–November 9, 2025.

  • LODGING DISCOUNTS: Attendees are strongly encouraged to secure their housing through onPeak, SEMA’s only official hotel provider. Booking through the official block allows you to claim hotel loyalty rewards points for your entire team at the lowest rates possible. Access these discounts through the Show website.

  • TRANSPORTATION: Uber, Lyft, taxis and other rideshare options can add up, but there are other cost-effective means of getting to the LVCC and around Las Vegas. SEMA will have a caravan of free shuttles transporting attendees to and from the convention center at every major hotel on the strip. Or avoid the roads altogether and take the monorail, which stops at the LVCC just outside Central Hall. Trains run throughout the day, and stations are accessible from major hotels along the strip. (Note that Vegas traffic is often congested and parking at the LVCC is extremely limited, so choosing from the above options is strongly advised.)

  • THE VEGAS LOOP: Returning Show attendees are familiar with the underground shuttle network called the Loop, a fun way of getting around the LVCC while saving time and energy. The Loop has recently added stations at the Westgate, Resorts World and Encore hotels.

  • TRAVEL VISAS FOR INTERNATIONAL ATTENDEES: For those traveling from outside of the United States, SEMA can offer a letter of invitation for approved attendees. The online registration form must be completed before a visa letter can be issued. The letter will only be prepared using the individual’s name and company name as listed in their registration record. For more information, visit the Registration FAQs section of SEMAShow.com/attendee and scroll down to “I need a visa to enter the United States. How can I get a letter of invitation?”

EXHIBITING AT THE SEMA SHOW

EXHIBITING AT THE SEMA SHOW

NOW’S THE TIME TO BUILD YOUR PLAN FOR GROWTH AT THE INDUSTRY’S PREEMINENT TRADE EVENT

BY MICHAEL IMLAY

Economic fluctuations, supply-chain realignments, changing buyer habits—at times the market can feel like a confusing swirl of crosscurrents. For specialty-automotive manufacturers and suppliers, however, one steady constant remains: the annual SEMA Show, where the industry comes to do business.

"For businesses navigating a rapidly changing market, the SEMA Show offers more than inspiration; it offers stability and an unmatched environment to future-proof your business," says SEMA Vice President of Events Tom Gattuso. "In times of uncertainty, SEMA delivers clarity, confidence and opportunity, fueling connections that matter and growth that lasts."

In other words, if you’re already a registered exhibitor for the 2025 SEMA Show, set to return to Las Vegas this November 4–7, you’ve made perhaps the single best investment for growth that a business can make, no matter the market. And if your company hasn’t yet signed on to exhibit, there’s still time to do so at semashow.com/exhibitor.

"AS AN EXHIBITOR, YOU PUT YOUR BRAND IN FRONT OF AN INCREDIBLE AMOUNT OF BUYING POWER THAT CAN PROPEL YOU FORWARD IN THE AUTOMOTIVE SPACE."

No matter the economic climate, exhibiting at the SEMA Show is perhaps the single best investment a company can make for gaining exposure, finding new buyers and growing business.

A UNIQUE VALUE PROPOSITION

Having committed to the event, now is also the time to hone your Show plan to maximize ROI. According to SEMA Show Director Andy Tompkins, it all starts with recognizing and leveraging the Show’s unique value proposition.

"There may be some external factors we’re all concerned about right this moment, but the competitive landscape still exists—and you can seize a competitive edge when you demonstrate that you have new and innovative products at the SEMA Show. Our attendee surveys continue to find that discovering new products is top of mind for buyers and media alike," he says.

In addition, Tompkins believes the SEMA Show offers exhibitors unique opportunities to explore the industry’s latest trends, introduce and brainstorm new product lines, grab industry and media attention, forge new relationships and future-proof their businesses.

Moreover, Gattuso notes that industry-wide enthusiasm for the Show plays to an exhibitor’s advantage. "It just keeps growing," he says. "This year, we’ll be building on the momentum of 2024, which saw the largest SEMA Show we’ve ever had with more than 2,000 exhibitors in an event covering more than a million square feet at the Las Vegas Convention Center. But the Show isn’t just big—it’s the best-qualified audience in the world for specialty- equipment brands."

"It’s definitely a pure, qualified audience," agrees Tompkins. "Our 160,000-plus attendees are enthusiasts, influencers and decision-makers all rolled into one—everyone at the Show is dialed into the energy and passion on display throughout the week. As an exhibitor, you put your brand in front of an incredible amount of buying power that can propel you forward in the automotive space."

SEMA Education panel discussion

The Show is about more than exhibiting. By taking part in seminars and other Show activations, exhibitors can stay on top of the latest industry trends and innovations.

A FIRST-TIMER FINDS SUCCESS

Tyler Green, founder and CEO of Cache Inc., can attest to the Show’s power firsthand. Headquartered in Sandy, Utah, his homegrown company is the developer of the Basecamp System, which it calls "the world’s first modular tailgate system" for trucks. Easily fitted to a tailgate, the padded unit acts as a secure carrying hub for bikes, chairs, coolers and other gear. Last year, Cache became a first-time exhibitor—yet admittedly with some trepidation.

"After seven years in business, we knew that the SEMA Show could be a great opportunity to grow our OEM business through new automotive partnerships," says Green. "But it was quite the internal debate whether ‘SEMA would be worth it’ for our company." Ultimately, the Cache team decided that landing just one new partnership would validate the time and money spent on the Show, so they made that their official goal. The strategy paid off.

"The response was amazing," Green relates. "With no preconceived expectations and surrounded by the large brands we continually look up to, we were shocked by the amazing traffic we produced with our team’s DIY setup. Within a few hours the first day, we were approached by almost every auto manufacturer’s accessory buyer and their teams. I’m proud to say we now will be launching four-plus new OEM partnerships that are set to go live in the coming months."

Based on Cache’s success in 2024, Green strongly encourages first-time exhibitors to come up with at least one objective for the Show, then "sculpt" a plan around that objective to reach their key performance indicator (KPI). Additionally, don’t underestimate the tremendous impact that an interactive, professional-looking booth can have on buyers and customers.

"This doesn’t mean you have to go spend thousands on professionals," he explains. "But dedicate time and resources to building out a booth that is welcoming, have product information [ready] and be prepared with business cards galore. Lots of opportunities will come up that lead to other doors you wouldn’t know were possible." Green’s ultimate piece of advice? "Begin reaching out to those you want to speak with months ahead of the Show—we learned that the hard way!"

From Tompkins’ perspective, Cache is a prime example of an exhibitor smartly leveraging the Show. The brand set a clear, attainable goal for return on investment; next it developed and properly executed a Show strategy tailored to that goal; and then, post-event, the brand diligently followed up on leads. "This is the proven advice we regularly give all our exhibitors," emphasizes Tompkins. "It may sound simple, but time and again, it works for all types of exhibitors, regardless of their size or what they hope to get from the Show."

Of course, SEMA Show planners realize exhibitors arrive in Las Vegas with a wide range of goals. Some mainly seek distributors or leads. Others aim to make a splash with a single new product, service or innovation. Larger businesses might have several items to showcase. Still others—especially legacy companies—focus more on strengthening their brand, attracting media coverage and connecting with content creators. Consequently, the Show has developed key features to deliver on all these fronts.

"Regardless of where you are in your company’s lifecycle, there’s no other place that can match everything our Show can do to take your business to the next level," asserts Gattuso. "Whether you want to fill a pipeline or raise your profile, this Show meets you where you are and provides you with the essential avenues for growth."

Outdoor activations present opportunities to see products put through their paces. Aligning your brand with these and other vehicular displays also grabs attention.

The SEMA Show’s 160,000-plus attendees are enthusiasts, influencers and decision-makers all rolled into one—making them a qualified, ready audience for whatever your brand has to offer.

TOP TIPS FOR SUCCESS

Whatever a brand’s specific objectives, Gattuso and Tompkins say that the most successful exhibitor strategies will typically include the following:

  • Taking full advantage of the SEMA Show New Products Showcase (see sidebar p. 29), a top attendee destination. In fact, buyers and media routinely build their day-to-day Show itineraries around the innovations they encounter at this Show feature, so having one or more products in the Showcase significantly boosts your chances of making their destination lists.
  • Designing an interactive booth. Think carefully about what you can reasonably showcase in the space you have to grab attention. Perhaps it’s your most eye-catching product or a top seller. Maybe it’s several. Either way, match staffing, signage, collateral and furnishings to your needs while considering visitor engagement and traffic flow. Live demos and/or immersive media are popular ways to draw in passersby, and even a simple video loop can spark conversations. (Bonus hint: Many successful exhibitors say they mock up a booth at their headquarters and practice their Show pitches months ahead of time.)
  • Alerting partners and potential new customers well in advance of the Show. Share what you’ll introduce there and/or any booth promotions, presentations and activities. While you’re at it, inform the media by uploading a press release to the SEMA Show media site (semashow.com/press-release). An explicit invitation to attendees can go a long way toward drawing visitors to your exhibit.
  • Considering a booth vehicle. Attendees are enthusiasts at heart and naturally gravitate to exciting builds. If a vehicle of your own is out of reach, consider supplying product to one or more of the Show’s hundreds of feature vehicles. (QR codes at feature builds lead attendees to exhibitors on the Show floor.)
  • Scheduling time for Show networking events, educational seminars and activations. For an industry manufacturer or service provider, these Show features can be valuable in trendspotting, surveying what the competition is up to, staff training and enrichment, and exchanging fresh ideas and insights for growth with peers.
  • Regularly consulting the Exhibitor Services Manual (ESM). The ESM contains detailed answers to virtually every question that can arise about exhibiting, deadlines, policies and procedures—making it an essential tool for success and cost savings. Access it online at exhibitor.semashow.com.

EVOLVING WITH THE MARKET

Along with the above "traditional" Show strategies, exhibitors will want to keep in mind the changing nature of trade shows in general, and the SEMA Show specifically. In today’s trade-event landscape, attendees are often younger, more connected and more interaction-oriented than ever before. That shift is fueling a wave of innovation in how the SEMA Show engages and entertains Showgoers, simultaneously bringing new opportunities for exhibitors to excite attendees and market to a wider audience.

"From live builds in SEMA Central to experiential features and drifting exhibitions, this isn’t your father’s trade show," Gattuso quips. "Younger attendees don’t want a B2B-only model. They want involvement, and we’re increasingly bringing that to them through interactive experiences, SEMA Live, SEMA Show Friday—Open to the Public and other features."

"This interactivity is a vital business opportunity," adds Tompkins. "And it’s pulling in a new class of storytellers and content creators who can extend your reach beyond your booth if you know how to tap into them and speak with an authentic voice."

A growing number of companies are learning to do just that, seeing the Show as a one-of-a-kind opportunity to generate both real-world buzz and digital impact around their booth activities. Many now time their product launches or vehicle unveilings for the Show, capitalizing on the massive reach the event delivers through social and traditional media. Content-creator (AKA "influencer") collaborations have also become a regular aspect of SEMA, along with brands doing their own live streamings and sharing of announcements, reels, clips and photos on social media.

"If you do it right, content gets created for you exponentially," observes Tompkins. "But whether you produce it yourself or let the Show do it for you, there’s no better place to gather a year’s worth of media assets."

"It’s easy to think that digital campaigns are enough—and yes, you can invest in a paid media campaign with impressive reach—but it won’t get you this audience," adds Gattuso. "SEMA attendees aren’t passive scrollers. They’re industry buyers, builders, creators and business owners who live and breathe automotive culture and eagerly share it online."

In other words, the SEMA Show remains a trade event where every exhibitor can easily stand out and grow their business. As Tompkins sums up, "The Show is a community that reflects the many facets and businesses of the aftermarket—including yours. If you come with well-set goals and a clear game plan for meeting them, people will find you, and all will fall into place. And why wouldn’t you want to be a part of that?"

"YOU CAN SEIZE A COMPETITIVE EDGE WHEN YOU DEMONSTRATE THAT YOU HAVE NEW AND INNOVATIVE PRODUCTS…”

THE NEW PRODUCTS SHOWCASE

THE IDEAL SEMA SHOW FEATURE FOR RAISING YOUR PROFILE

One of the most savvy moves a SEMA Show exhibitor can make is to participate in the New Products Showcase (NPS)—a value-packed program designed to maximize visibility and drive booth traffic. With the first product entry always free of charge, there’s little excuse not to leverage this powerful Show feature.

In fact, internal SEMA survey data indicates that the majority of buyers discover new companies through the NPS. Whether it’s a physical product, poster or product video, an exhibitor’s presence there sets a tone for their booth and draws in attendees.

“It’s such a benefit to exhibitors,” says SEMA Trade Show Operations Coordinator Justine Hubbard, who oversees the program. “The Showcase puts your products right in front of media, buyers, builders, business owners and other industry professionals. It just blows my mind when an exhibitor fails to take advantage of it.”

“Nowhere else can we get to this many of our dealers and our consumers and show them new products that they get to touch and feel,” agrees John Myers of KICKER Stillwater Designs. “On the internet, you just don’t get that experience.”

This year, the NPS moves to the east end of the convention center’s Lower South Hall, right next to the main registration area—effectively making it an easy first stop for most Show attendees. In addition to on-site display, every product is professionally photographed, promoted across official SEMA Show channels, and listed in a year-round online gallery that continues to generate exposure long after the Show ends. Even better, all eligible new-product entries are considered for the 2026 SEMA New Products Awards and the SEMA Show Media’s Choice Awards, providing even more brand exposure and recognition.

As you plan your booth presence at the Show, don’t forget to enter your company’s products into the NPS at semashow.com/newproducts.

SEMA Show 2024: The Epicenter of Automotive Innovation, Driving the Future of the Aftermarket Industry

SEMA Show 2024: The Epicenter of Automotive Innovation, Driving the Future of the Aftermarket Industry

By SEMA News Editors

SEMA Central 2024

The 2024 SEMA Show has officially concluded, solidifying its status as the global epicenter of automotive innovation. The event brought together more than 2,400 exhibitors, including 580 first-time exhibitors, and attracted more than 160,000 attendees from 140 countries celebrating the industry at events throughout SEMA Week. Held at the Las Vegas Convention Center from November 5-8, this year's Show encompassed 1.2 million net square feet of indoor space and acres of outdoor exhibit space and activations showcasing groundbreaking products, cutting-edge technologies, and forward-thinking custom builds. The scope, energy and passion reaffirmed the SEMA Show as the premier automotive aftermarket event shaping the future of the industry.

"SEMA 2024 was a true celebration of where the automotive aftermarket industry is headed," said Mike Spagnola, SEMA president and CEO. "This year, we saw a remarkable convergence of innovation, collaboration, and passion, with exhibitors, builders, and enthusiasts all coming together to push the boundaries of what's possible. Innovation was the heart of SEMA Show 2024, driving the merger of creativity and technology across the Show floor."

"[This year's SEMA Show] was definitely a success because we met our goals, which was to meet and cultivate three new solid industry friendships and acquaintances--and pick up at least one new product to offer [in our shop]. We succeeded on both fronts by adding a new product line we'll stock and sell regularly, as well as adding a product that will be a special order offering for large ticket restyling [projects]," said attendee Steve Welch, a restyler who owns New York Customz offering automotive restyling, paint protective services and window tinting in Dothan, Alabama. "Adding industry contacts, in my opinion, is equally and almost more important. The old adage rings true with almost every avenue of life: it's not what you know, but who."

Whether it was the unveiling of next-gen products like the Revv ADAS PlusMilltek Forge Motorsport E-DV electronic diverter valve solution, or innovative designs like the Kia EV9 ADVNTR Concept, the event demonstrated that SEMA is not just a trade show—it's a catalyst for industry evolution.

SEMA SHOW CELEBRITIES: STARS BEHIND THE WHEEL

A staple for celebrity appearances and star-powered moments, the 2024 SEMA Show attracted major attention from both the entertainment and motorsports worlds. Among the most anticipated reveals was country music sensation Kane Brown's custom F-250 King Ranch. Displayed at the American Force Wheels booth, the stunning build had crowds buzzing as fans lined up for a glimpse of the star's personalized ride.

Chip Foose, legendary designer, brought his unmistakable touch to a number of custom builds, and Akira Nakai (known for his work with RAUH-Welt Begriff or RWB) created a one-of-a-kind Porsche 997—a milestone as his first-ever build at the SEMA Show, continuing his legacy of perfection and influence in the world of custom cars.

SEMA FEST AND CONSUMER ENGAGEMENT: CONNECTING THE INDUSTRY WITH FANS

SEMA Fest 2024

SEMA Fest expanded the Show's reach by offering the public a chance to engage with cutting-edge automotive designs, live music, and motorsports. Featuring performances from bands like Cage the Elephant and Sublime, SEMA Fest brought together music, motorsports and automotive culture for an unforgettable experience.

The SEMA Cruise was another crowd-pleaser, with more than 1,200 vehicles parading down Convention Center Drive, giving attendees a final chance to see some of the most innovative and jaw-dropping builds up close.

SEMA also opened its doors, literally and digitally, through the Friday Enthusiast Experience, an opportunity for the public to experience the Show on its final day, and SEMA Live, the Show's first-ever livestream, which attracted hundreds of thousands of viewers from around the world, giving the SEMA Show a true global audience.

Exhibitor Motorcycle Industry Council in Irvine, California, is a not-for-profit organization that works to spread the thrills of motorcycle riding. Its RideWithUs program, situated in the Diamond Lot outside of West Hall this year, saw several attendees learn how to ride a motorcycle, many for the first time in their lives. SEMA Live host JC Fernando even took a spin while livestreaming this year, with viewers watching him gear up with a helmet and driving suit before successfully--and safely--riding a motorcycle on the SEMA Show campus.

"SEMA is always a great Show--the energy is high, the people are stoked to be here, and when you have the opportunity to offer attendees an experience they can't get anywhere else," said Cinnamon Kernes, vice president of market expansion for Motorcycle Industry Council. "Automotive enthusiasts appreciate the fun that engines provide, and for many, riding a motorcycle would probably be something they'd really enjoy--they just need a chance to try it. And so that's what we did [with RideWithUs at SEMA this year]. We got them geared up, paired with a coach, and we put them on a motorcycle. Within minutes, they were riding and smiling.

"SEMA also attracts many knowledgeable younger enthusiasts as they offer student and educator badges for free. So we get to put motorcycling in front of the demographics we really want to reach," Kernes continued. "If you didn't get a chance to try riding a motorcycle at SEMA, there will be opportunities across the country at Motorcycle Safety Foundation-approved schools that offer free RIDE Days with certified MSF coaches. Check out MSF-USA.org for a schedule. And if you're not sure where to begin or are looking to rejoin the moto community, visit RideWithUs.com for inspiration and next steps."

SEMA SHOW 2024: MORE THAN JUST A TRADE SHOW

The 2024 SEMA Show was more than just a celebration of the latest products—it was an exploration of the future. The event served its role as the industry's innovation epicenter, where attendees engaged in 80+ seminars, hands-on workshops and networking events designed to keep them ahead in an ever-evolving industry.

SEMA's advocacy efforts were also front and center, underscoring the importance of collaboration across the industry. With initiatives like the SEMA Action Network (SAN) and the SEMA Political Action Committee (PAC), SEMA continues to advocate for policies that protect and promote the automotive aftermarket, ensuring the continued growth and success of the sector.

Honda Racing Corporation Uses SEMA to Announce New High-Performance Parts Business
Honda Racing at the SEMA Show

Honda Racing Corporation (HRC), also known as Honda Racing, is the motorsport subsidiary of the Honda Motor Company. Its SEMA Show booth this year showcased the brand's new performance parts division and prominently featured brand ambassador and auto expert Dionne Mascunana of OMG Builds.

"HRC is going to get into something really fun here. We're going to get into the high-performance parts business. At Honda, we race everything from Indy[Car] to IMSA to obviously Formula 1 and even Baja trucks. We have a lot of knowledge here with all of the HRC folks in Japan and here in America; we've got a lot of people who are versed in all disciplines of making cars go faster, and we want to be able to share all this know-how by creating performance parts so we could connect more with enthusiasts," said Jon Ikeda, senior vice president of HRC Business Division. "Going forward, we want to make authentic high-performance parts they will be able to put on their vehicles. It's an exciting day here for HRC at SEMA."

Among the Honda vehicles on display at SEMA were:

Formerly known as Honda Performance Development (HPD), HRC US has been winning races and championships on and off the road for three decades and will use this extensive know-how to introduce a new line of performance parts for retail customers.

Based on the strong interest generated by the Acura Integra Type S HRC Prototype, displayed at Monterey Car Week in August 2024, HRC has decided to move forward with the creation of new lines of authentic performance parts specifically for retail consumers in North America. These new parts will leverage the technical knowledge and expertise of championship-winning HRC race engineers, and the first prototypes are expected to be ready as early as next year. As a hugely successful racing brand for years, HRC US is uniquely positioned to offer parts for customers to enhance the performance of their own Honda and Acura vehicles.

"HRC US has been winning races and championships on and off-road for three decades, and we're excited to apply this experience to new lines of performance parts for Honda and Acura enthusiasts eager to augment their performance driving experience," said Ikeda. "To be an HRC genuine part, it must meet our exacting standards while functionally improving vehicle performance and the driving experience."

KIA America Inc. Makes Exciting Return to SEMA With Custom EV Concepts
KIA America at the SEMA Show

Kia America unveiled two all-new customized concept vehicles on the opening day of the SEMA Show. Imagined by designers from Kia Design Center America (KDCA), the concepts bring to life a future where vehicles will provide the ultimate in capability, adaptability, utility and organization, all with an eye on sustainability.

"Our vehicles already help people live their active and adventurous lifestyles, and it was fun to see just how far we could go with these latest concepts. The SEMA Show acts as a blank canvas for creativity and offers a glimpse into what Kia's automotive future may hold," said Steven Center, COO and executive vice president of Kia America.

There were two custom concept lifestyle KIA vehicles displayed at the SEMA Show:

  • EV9 ADVNTR CONCEPT EV SUV, a genuinely unique all-electric three-row SUV designed to take life well beyond the beaten path-- and conquer it. Built for serious fun, the '25 EV9 EV SUV has been refined into the most adventurous SUV Kia has ever imagined. With custom front and rear facias for a unique and rugged look--and reinforced rocker panels for increased capability and character--the EV9 ADVNTR EV SUV also features a 3-in." lift compared to the standard EV9 and a rugged tire and wheel combination to maximize the vehicle's off-road capability, and much more.
  • PV5 WKNDR CONCEPT EV VAN, based on Kia's recently debuted line of EV purpose beyond vehicles, is designed for small businesses and delivery functionality. It is a highly capable van lifted and equipped with off-road tires, an ideal escape pod for extended weekends in nature. The PV5 WKNDR EV VAN features a highly flexible and adaptable modular interior that can be easily and efficiently customized to maximize space and function--akin to a Swiss Army Knife on wheels.

"The aftermarket--for any manufacturer--is good business. Especially as we as a brand have become so focused and so good at utility vehicles, we knew that off-roading accessories and that space made a lot of sense. And we see this, especially in electrified vehicles, as a really good place because somebody who's going off-road wants to do it responsibly," said James Bell, head of corporate communications for Kia America.

Mopar/Stellantis Puts a Charge Into SEMA With New Concept Vehicles
MOPAR and Stellantis at the SEMA Show

Mopar put a serious charge into the SEMA Show with new, head-turning concept vehicles combined to showcase a wide range of distinctly different appearances and performance modifications to enthusiasts.

"Whether it's envisioning an electrified propulsion system or outfitting the most capable production off-road pickups, Mopar is ready to enhance the customer experience with quality-tested, factory-backed parts and accessories."

Among the Mopar vehicles on display at the SEMA Show include:

  • Plymouth GTX Electromod Concept, a peek into the future of possible battery-electric vehicle (BEV) conversion kit applications by showing a potential future Mopar e-Crate propulsion system for enthusiasts to build or convert classic and current cars and trucks into BEVs.
  • Ram 2500 Power Wagon Concept, which is a rugged HEMI-powered full-size truck that performs flawlessly as a daily workhorse or weekend warrior.
  • Moparized Ram 1500 RHO, now the latest addition to the Ram Sport truck lineup and a perfect canvas for the custom bold Mopar Blue bodyside graphics that provide a striking contrast from the satin metallic Diamond Black exterior underneath.

In addition, the Dodge performance parts brand Direct Connection showcased a lineup of crate engines and products, plus the Direct Connection HurriCrate Cat 3 crate engine-powered '87 Dodge D150 of Morgan Evans, winner of the Direct Connection Grudge Race at the recent Roadkill Nights Powered by Dodge event.

Showgoers were also treated to the "power couple," a metallic blue and dual white striped Ram REV pulling a matching and modified version of the Dodge Charger Daytona SRT Banshee concept.

Jeep was also well represented on the SEMA Show floor, including several custom builds that made their debut after conquering the challenging trails in Moab, Utah, during the 58th annual Easter Jeep Safari last March:

  • Jeep Low Down Concept
  • Jeep Willys Dispatcher Concept
  • Jeep Gladiator Rubicon High Top Concept, which will carry, for the first time, the newest custom piece from the design team at Mopar and Jeep Performance Parts. The Mopar ILLUMINAT3 off-road lighting accessory is a pivoting lightbar concept with patented innovative features, allowing the outer lights to hinge and rotate around the roof, illuminating all areas around the vehicle.
  • Jeep Vacationeer Concept

Nissan North America Brought the Thrill With Project Vehicles, Nissan Z Legend Accessory Package Concept
Nissan at the SEMA Show

Nissan brought the thrill to the SEMA Show with four project builds and an accessory concept illustrating how Nissan vehicles can be a canvas for four-wheeled excitement.

This year's Nissan project vehicles highlighted how owners might build on the distinctive styling and capability of the '25 Frontier pickup and all-new '25 Kicks crossover to build a unique vehicle that amplifies their personality.

Also making its debut is the Nissan Z Legend accessory package concept, inspired by the popular Z Heritage Edition. Recreating the throwback look of the limited-run '24 Z Heritage Edition, the Nissan Z Legend accessory package concept is an unmistakable homage to Z car history. The Legend package adds vintage-look wheels, a carbon fiber rear spoiler, over-fenders and other decals. Easter eggs include an emblem on the C-pillar that showcases seven gears, a nod to the seven generations of the Nissan Z.

Among the SEMA Show vehicles on display in the Nissan booth were:

  • Project Trailgater, built in partnership with PowerNation TV's "Music City Trucks" and based on a '25 Nissan Frontier PRO-4X. SEMA News readers interested in learning more can view a three-part series of how the truck was built on the PowerNation channel.
  • Frontier TARMAC concept, a one-off street truck that embodies the spirit of sport and muscle trucks of the past. This vehicle was a collaboration between Nissan Motorsports, Nissan Design America and Forsberg Racing.
  • Kicks Beach Patrol concept, inspired by the rescue trucks that used to patrol beaches, this build features intelligent all-wheel drive and best-in-class standard ground clearance, priming it for adventures beyond the parking lot.
  • Kicks Urband Shadow concept, which takes inspiration from tuner culture with graphics, wheels and suspension modifications that promote on-road excitement. The build shows the potential for Kicks drivers to modify their vehicles and showcases prototype NISMO parts.

Toyota Motor North America Booth Overflowing With Modified Builds
Toyota Motor North America at the SEMA Show

The Toyota Motor North America booth was once again one of the most dominant forces on the SEMA Show floor, this year teeming with countless custom vehicles and innovations.

Among the Toyota vehicles on display at the SEMA Show were:

2024 SEMA Show Battle of the Builders winner Noah Alexander

SEMA has announced the overall winner of the 2024 SEMA Battle of the Builders Presented by Mothers, the aftermarket industry's ultimate vehicle competition celebrating its second decade of providing builders a platform to showcase their craftsmanship and skills to a worldwide audience.

The 2024 Battle of the Builders title goes to Noah Alexander and the '68 Dodge Charger, which was selected as the overall winner from the Hot Rod/Hot Rod Truck category among 172 total entries.

"[To] be crowned the 2024 SEMA Battle of the Builders overall winner is] an amazing accolade. The competition every year is incredibly fierce, and we've been following it for years. Some of the people we look up to the most in the industry have won this award, so to appear alongside those people is really incredible," said Alexander on the SEMA Show stage. "The best for us was the incredible people we met. It was just amazing to talk to all of these other builders and hear what they do; they pull all their best talent and to share that is what this hobby is all about."

The beautiful build came to fruition after Alexander and the team at Classic Car Studio in St. Louis, Missouri, had a chance meeting several years ago.

"I want to thank Mr. Ed Ganzinotti. Ed bought this car about 20 years ago in Bakersfield, California, and we met him in the checkout line in Barrett-Jackson around six years ago," Alexander said.

A couple of years later, Ganzinotti reached out to the Classic Car Studio about the Charger. "It started out as [a project where] we were going to fix some paint issues, do an interior refresh and rebuild the engine. We said, 'Ed, before we start, come to our shop, see what we're capable of, and become somewhat of a regular as we work on this build.'"

Once he saw the operation, the customer told the builders, "Guys, I want you to build me the baddest Charger out there." And the rest is now history, as Alexander and his team meticulously created this over-the-top refined build now known as the 2024 Battle of the Builders champion.

"The best part about the build is it has incredible drop-down gorgeous lines from the factory, so we wanted to keep that intact. We set out to modify as much as possible while being subtle and keeping it timeless. We sharpened all the lines; we tucked in the bumpers, we shaved the drip rails, and we just kept going and going. It's one of those cars where you have to step back to appreciate everything. There's lots of crazy metalwork on there, but we wanted to keep it looking like a Charger. It's a fully functional, nice driving car."

The announcement took place on Friday, November 8, on the SEMA Show stage in the Silver Lot outside of Central Hall. Coverage took place on SEMA Live, the new-for-2024 livestream program on YouTube here.
