EPAS Performance gets it. You’re not getting any younger, and parking your car with its manual steering system has become a pain. Or maybe you’re just sick of dealing with all the leaks and faults your hydraulic power steering pump endures year after year. For over a decade now, EPAS Performance has made it their mission to provide the highest quality electric power assisted steering kits to keep fellow car enthusiasts out of the garage and back on the road, where they belong. Their very first EPAS system was fabricated in the home garage of President Geoff Mason on his 1967 Ford Mustang and has since expanded to thousands of these kits being used and praised around the world today. "Our biggest reason for the move to the EPAS system was due to the consistent failure of the stock Ford hydraulic power steering pump. Drifting obviously involves pushing the rack from one extreme to the other, and we were replacing the pump once a year. Moving to electric power assist steering meant we could drop weight by switching to a manual rack and ditching the additional pumps and reservoirs required to support that configuration. Not only did we drop weight, but we’ve picked up adjustability with steering feel and responsiveness not found on the stock car. Flicking the steering and car from side to side, even with additional wheel travel from our custom knuckles and A-arms, is easier and quicker than before. We’ve been running this for a season with zero issues and multiple benefits. I would highly recommend the EPAS unit to anyone interested in reducing failures, eliminating weight, and increasing performance." - Chris Allen, American Muscle Sponsored USDrifter Until recently, these electric power steering systems were only compatible with manual steering racks or manual steering boxes, which meant anyone with hydraulic components, like Chris Allen, had to make that switch to manual before installing an EPAS kit. EPAS Performance recognized that not everyone would be willing to do that, so they spent three years designing, developing, and perfecting their new Hydroelectric Power Steering System that launched earlier this year. The EPAS Performance Hydroelectric Power Steering System now allows cars with existing hydraulic racks or hydraulic steering boxes to enjoy the ease of modern driving without having to switch to manual components. It has a program that works with an angle sensor on the steering column and CAN protocol. The converter talks to the pump via the angle sensor, ramping up the system's pressure as needed. There is no noticeable delay or drop in pressure when input at the steering wheel is exerted. This system includes 6’ of high-pressure sending hose, 6’ of low-pressure return hose, and power cords that are 10’ in length. An oil cooler can be added for racing applications. The wiring harness is essentially plug and play only requiring a hot ignition source, and full battery power. The system's draw is anywhere between 1 amp to 45 amps, spending most of its time in the lower amperage range. The maximum pressure of the unit is rated at 1900 PSI at 5 gallons per minute, and the absolute maximum length of the pressure hose and return lines is 17’. The EPAS Performance Hydroelectric Power Steering System will provide you with the smooth feel of hydraulic power steering without drawing power from the vehicle’s engine since it is electrically powered. Leaving your engine with more power to do what it is meant to do: drive. This new system retails for $1,550.00 and can be found online at www.epasperformance.com.
