LAS VEGAS -- Automobile enthusiasts and collectors eagerly awaiting a glimpse of American automotive history will have an opportunity to witness the reveal of a recreated 1962 Chevy Bel Air at the 2026 SEMA Show. Built for Dickey Bales by Rutterz Rodz in Bristol, Tenn., the "BalesAir is scheduled for its public unveiling at the Scoggin Dickey Parts Center booth (#22861), located in the Racing & Performance section of Central Hall. The 1962 Bel Air represents a pivotal moment in Chevrolet’s design lineage. For the 1962 model year, the Bel Air served as the entry-level, full-size offering in the iconic Bel Air lineup. It is revered by purists for its clean and uncluttered styling, robust mechanical simplicity, and the pragmatic spirit of the era’s “horsepower wars.” This build underwent a meticulous three-year restoration by Rutterz Rodz, and every component was either restored to factory-correct specifications or upgraded with modern performance parts that were driven by the builder, owner, and the design team of Brockmeyer Designs. "This classic recreation was a journey into the soul of the modern days of American engineering,” said Mike Rutter, owner of Rutterz Rodz. “From the iconic look of the two-door post styling to the raw 490 horsepower of the Chevrolet Performance LS376 engine and 6L80 six-speed automatic transmission, this car is exactly what it should have been in 1962 as it rolled off the showroom floor. This creation has a timeless presence that will turn heads at every intersection.” Highlights Exterior: Authentic exterior finished in Glasurit Automotive Refinish Artic White paint, with some custom mixed color accents to give it a classic period-correct look. Body Features: Removed side trim and body moldings to give it a more sporty look that exudes elegance while adding some custom badges. Powertrain: New Chevrolet Performance LS 376 and 6L80 six-speed automatic transmission from Scoggin Dickey Parts Center, headers from Ultimate Headers, front-runner system by Drive Junky, and a Lokar Modern Classic Breather system that brings out the vintage look of a '62. Interior: Completely reupholstered with original-quality leather and original-style seats to give it a hot rod look. Also features a Vintage Air cooling system, American Auto Wire system, and Dakota Digital instrumentation. Chassis: Roadster Shop Revo Customer Chassis with Baer brakes and Michelin tires wrapped around Forgeline custom wheels, ensuring modern drivability with classic handling.
