Murray Kruger to Showcase Custom Tacoma Build at SEMA

Join Kruger for a full walk-around at GEARWRENCH booth 38017

SPARKS, M.D., October 29, 2024 – Murray Kruger, a car enthusiast and content creator known for his vehicle builds and ASMR-style tool reviews, will showcase his custom Toyota Tacoma build at GEARWRENCH booth 38017 during SEMA, Nov. 5-8 in Las Vegas.

Kruger’s ground-up rebuild of a Toyota Tacoma, which has captured the attention of automotive enthusiasts, will be on display throughout the week. He will be at the GEARWRENCH booth on Tuesday, Nov. 5 to answer questions about the build and the products used to complete it.

Kruger says his own experience as a car enthusiast inspired the project.

“I’d go to car shows and see a million-dollar car and think about how expensive it would be to do a build like that,” says Kruger. “Our goal was to create an attainable off-road vehicle that anyone can build. We’ve added a lot of cool features, but kept an eye on affordability and quality throughout the project.”

Behind the Build

Kruger, who has completed several car builds and is a Lexus fan, liked the idea of working with a smaller Toyota truck. While researching his options, he discovered the Tacoma is one of the most accessorized trucks on the market. But he also liked the truck for its versatility.

“We can go get groceries with it, but then we also just took it up to the mountains and did a bunch of camping and off-road driving,” he says. “It’s a lot of fun to drive.”

Kruger worked with several companies that offer high-quality yet affordable parts to ensure the modifications remained realistic for his audience.

Key components of the Tacoma build include:
- AccuTune Off-Road’s American-made Ride suspension
- Diode Dynamics high-performance LED lighting
- SmartCap modular bins made of stainless steel
- GEARWRENCH MEGAMOD foam trays used throughout the project for efficient tool organization

“This Tacoma build is the most fun I’ve ever had on a vehicle,” Kruger shares. “I’m excited to share it with the SEMA audience and demonstrate that impressive custom builds can be both achievable and affordable.”

A Family Affair

Growing up as a self-proclaimed “tool nut,” Kruger’s passion for tools and cars laid the foundation for his future career.

“My dad was a truck driver, farmer and carpenter, and his tools would disappear,” he remembers. “I’d take them from the garage or even take them apart.” Tinkering with his dad led him to the trades and later, work in insurance repair. In 2012, Kruger and his wife opened Kruger Construction.

Becoming a content creator wasn’t initially part of Kruger’s business plan. But a friend encouraged him to start posting before and after pictures of his work to social media. Kruger says he didn’t see much traction until he posted about a tool. His popularity took off from there.

“When I hit 15,000 I said to my son, who helps with my content, ‘Next stop, 50,000!’ I’ll never forget us laughing and thinking we’ve capped out, there’s no way that’s ever going to happen. Then we hit a million and blew up after that. I think in two years we’ve gained 1.5 million followers.” He now has more than 4.5 million followers across his social media platforms.

Kruger’s content features tools in action rather than formal reviews, allowing his audience to make their own decisions.

“I think that’s something that’s really kept us legit,” says Kruger. “People like our content because it’s real.”
