Year after year, focus on aftermarket emissions compliance intensifies as regulatory agencies pursue more and more enforcement actions.  As all of us should be aware, the U.S. Clean Air Act prohibits certain performance modifications of street vehicles without proper certification.  Fortunately, the California Air Resources Board (CARB) provides a method by which manufacturers can certify emissions–related products.  The CARB certification is recognized by the U.S. EPA and provides coverage for all 50 states.
SEMA’s program to expedite the certification process with CARB allows members to proceed immediately to product testing, saving enormous amounts of time and energy.  Through the SEMA Emissions Compliance Center, staff can perform R&D or certification emissions testing, assist in the analysis of test data (including modal data), prepare certification applications and provide other laboratory and marketing services.
