Covercraft and Finish Line Speed Shop set to "Burn Out Cancer" at 2017 SEMA Show

PAULS VALLEY, OK (October 4, 2017) – For the third year in a row, Covercraft will team up with Finish Line Speed Shop to showcase a custom vehicle in the name of charity.

A 1967 GMC C30 Dually will grace the show floor this year in honor of people close to the builder who have battled cancer. “Our family, like so many others, has dealt with pain and suffering related to cancer”, says Lyon McClenahan, owner of Finish Line Speed Shop. “We have had close friends and family members who have either succumbed to the disease or are still in the fight against it. We wanted to build a truck that emphasized their determination and strength”, continues Lyon.

Close family friend, Dana Colon is currently battling through her third bout with Breast Cancer and provides an enormous amount of inspiration for Finish Line. Although doctors say that Dana will never be cured, she is busy showing that cancer will not control her life. She is a warrior, refusing to allow the darkness cancer brings to outshine the positive, radiant attitude she exuberates every single day.

Four years ago, family friend Kevin Veach was diagnosed with Multiple Myeloma cancer, also known as Kahler’s disease. Prior to diagnosis, Kevin had been to multiple doctors, specialists and chiropractors but he was left without any answer as to why he was experiencing so much pain. At 40 years old, Kevin, desperate, walked into an emergency room at Swedish Hospital in Seattle, WA. It was this place that doctors explained to Kevin this was much more than “back pain”. Since then, Kevin has astonished his medical team. Most patients with this disease are over the age of 60, and his prognosis was a 5-8 year life expectancy. 3 years later, Kevin has had what is called a “tandem” cell transplant, received at The Fred Hutch Research Center. All the while he has remained the happy and driven Kevin that the Finish Line family loves.

Lyon was almost 8-years-old when his dad, Tom, passed away due to complications from brain cancer. Tom was 34. One of Lyon’s favorite stories about his dad reveals the true, “never let anything stop you”, stubborn streak both Tom and Lyon possess. As a teenager, Lyon’s dad, Tom, crashed his father’s 58 Ford truck. Tom taught himself to do the bodywork and paint to fix it himself. That candy apple red truck became one of Tom’s most prized possessions. It is no wonder that Lyon became a self-made Designer, Visionary and Entrepreneur.

For the 2017 SEMA Show, Finish Line Speed Shop and "Project Giving Back" decided to build the Burn Out Cancer GMC in honor of these people and the cause for Cancer Research. Proceeds will go to the world-renowned Fred Hutch Center Research Center in Seattle, WA.

Covercraft will be featuring the “Burn Out Cancer” GMC in Booth #23343 in Central Hall at the 2017 SEMA Show.
