NHRA Breakfast Previews Snake & Mongoose Trailer

This year’s annual NHRA Breakfast at the 2012 SEMA Show provided a special treat for drag-racing lovers and racing fans alike as legends Don “The Snake” Prudhomme and Tom “The Mongoose” McEwen were on hand to provide a sneak-peek of the upcoming motion picture, Snake & Mongoose. The standing-room only crowd enjoyed a preview of the official trailer, an interview with the movie’s writer Alan Paradise and producer Robin Broidy and the stories from McEwen and Prudhomme as they discussed the making of the movie and recalled the real-life stories that inspired the motion picture.

The two legends discussed how the movie ventures beyond the horsepower and the smoke to highlight a truly original relationship between two friends who were also fierce rivals.

Emceed by the voice of the NHRA, Bob Frey, the breakfast featured the original Snake and Mongoose NHRA Funny Cars on display and included a Q&A session where attendees were able to talk to Prudhomme and McEwen. The two drag-racing legends also signed limited-edition Snake & Mongoose movie posters at the NHRA booth #22329.

OMIX-ADA Seminar Demystifies Social Media

Attendees Learn to Find, Connect and Engage Customers

Social media is here to stay and it is changing the way we communicate and interact with our consumers.

Tuesday, October 30, OMIX-ADA Director of Marketing Henk VanDongen presented a well-received seminar on the topic, featuring the social-media case study of legendary off-road enthusiast Dave Doetsch, builder of the award-winning Jeepzilla and Black Widow vehicles. The educational event was held at the OMIX-ADA Off-Road Success Center, booth #30147.

Seminar participants learned how to take the mystery out of social media and use the technology as they would any other communications channel to encourage two-way dialogue with customers. Presentation points included:

1. Determining objectives and targeting stakeholder priorities

2. Designing and testing a program to meet those objectives

3. Implementing the program 

4. Evaluating

5. Adjusting if needed and repeating the program for additional results

Evaluating social media can sometimes be challenging, but seminar attendees also learned steps to track, measure, calculate and analyze a variety of results. 

The objectives will of course vary, but many organizations look to social media to build their brand and reputations, drive sales, improve service levels or product development, respond to customer feedback or complaints, and build advocacy among their customers.

Global Rally Cross

Global Rallycross Championship brought the spectacle of rallycross racing to the 2012 SEMA Show, the largest automotive industry event of its kind, Tuesday, October 30, 5:00 p.m.

“We have been working hard with the SEMA team and are thrilled that we will be racing at this year’s event. 

It will be a great opportunity to showcase the incredible technology of rallycross cars in front of this amazing gathering of aftermarket suppliers from around the world. We want to open their eyes to the excitement of rallycross and show how cool these production-based B and C segment cars are,” explained Brian Gale, Global Rallycross Championship co-founder and president.

The race coincided with the Show’s opening night, Tuesday, October 30, on a course specially constructed on LVCC grounds directly across from the convention hall.

“Motorsports inspires and motivates millions of consumers around the world,” said Chris Kersting, SEMA president and CEO. “We are excited that Global Rallycross Championship is at Las Vegas during the SEMA Show week, as it will give entrepreneurs from our industry a first-hand look at the opportunities this burgeoning sport represents and the new consumer demographic it attracts.”

Global Rallycross was featured in SEMA’s Racing and Performance Forum at 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, October 30, in the Vehicle Technology Center in the Grand Lobby of the LVCC. 

The Forum will be moderated by John Waraniak, SEMA vice president of vehicle technology, and include Jamie Allison, director of Ford Racing; Jim Campbell, vice president of GM performance vehicles 

and motorsports; Ralph Gilles, president and CEO of street and racing technology brand and motorsports, Chrysler Group; and Brian Gale, co-founder of Global RallyCross

“We want to thank the leadership at SEMA for working with us to add this event to our 2012 calendar. 

It is an amazing opportunity that we couldn’t pass up, and we see it as being the perfect follow-up to our event at Las Vegas Motor Speedway on September 29 where the $25,000 Discount Tire Cup will be decided,” added Gale. Several of the sport’s biggest names are in contention, including “The General” Brian Deegan, renowned motocross athlete and Metal Mulisha founder, Ken Block of WRC and Gymkhana 5 fame, “Top Gear” USA‚ Tanner Foust and drifting champion Samuel Hubinette.

BUILT by eBay Challenge Winner Named

On Tuesday, October 30, the DUB Live area revealed a new spin on the project-car theme to SEMA Showgoers: eBay Motors, in association with Source Interlink Media (SIM), recently partnered with four gargages to build four distinctly different vehicles in a competitive campaign for charity entitled BUILT From eBay. The contest’s most unique requirement was that all vehicles and parts had to be aquired on the eBay Motors website. Visitors to a separate BUILT From eBay website were then able to follow the build’s progress and select a winning vehicle. 

Team captains from the four major SIM automotive publications selected the four garages to work their magic on the different project vehicles, according to Matt Boice, vice president of the SIM Enthusiast Media Group. Hot Rod magazine selected Mackey’s Hot Rods in Huntington Beach, California, to complete a ’68 Chevrolet G20 van. Four Wheeler chose Off Road Evolution in Fullerton, California, to create its ’70 Grand Cherokee Commando. European Car named GSR Autosport in Lake Forest, California, to build an ’84 Porsche 911. Lastly, Lowrider engaged Duran’s Quality Painting in Baldwin Park, California, to complete a ’66 Chevrolet El Camino.

Now unveiled and on display in the DUB Live area in the Silver Lot fronting the Las Vegas Convention Center, the vehicles will next be auctioned on eBay with proceeds going to four affiliated charities named by the build teams.
