Is Ceramic Coating Worth It?

For any car or boat owner, keeping a car's paint or boats fiberglass and gel coat pristine is always a challenge. The go-to solution has always been the tried and tested application of wax from day one of purchase. Periodic applications (sometimes frequent reapplication) of the same is needed to maintain the wax coat, as it is slowly removed via exposure to the elements.

Times are changing, however, and so has finishing and refinishing technology. Automotive paint nowadays is a bit different and boats have gel coat and painted surfaces. On cars, instead of piling layer upon layer of color pigment to produce a deep shine, a somewhat 'sacrificial' clear topcoat is now applied to give the paint luster. Wax, of course, is still the go-to, as is its frequent reapplication.

Water Transfer Printing Turns This Corvette C7 Engine Cover into a Carbon Fiber Masterpiece

Do you want to know how to make any type of material look like real carbon fiber? You’ve come to the right place.

TWN Industries, Inc. is the pioneer in Water Transfer Printing technology. Our process allows you to transfer intricate and incredibly realistic carbon fiber weave designs onto any type of 3-dimensional object.

Here’s how we “dipped” this C7 engine cover and fuel rail covers in our all-new Sport Carbon™ Water Transfer Printing film:

1) The Corvette C7 engine cover and fuel rail covers were thoroughly sanded and cleaned.
2) Our polypropylene primer was applied to increase adhesion and promote a strong chemical bond.
3) Our “Atomic Orange” base paint was applied to the engine cover and our “Charcoal” base paint was applied to the fuel rail covers.
4) The parts were then processed using our all-new Sport Carbon™ Water Transfer Printing film that is being released at SEMA 2017.

3M AUTO’S NEW BODY REPAIR SANDING SHEETS FEATURE PROPRIETARY PRECISION-SHAPED GRAIN TECHNOLOGY FOR A MORE CONSISTENT FINISH

Rust and dents are inevitable, but with the help of the industry’s strongest abrasives technology, they can also be quickly and effectively repaired. To help drivers resolve these issues conveniently and affordably, 3M Auto today announced the launch of its revolutionary 3M™ Precision Shaped Grain Sheets.

3M™’s proprietary Precision-Shaped Grain technology is engineered to act like a cutting tool, slicing through metal up to five times longer for increased productivity. The technology housed in the 3M™ Precision Shaped Grain Sheets continuously fractures to form sharp points and edges – slicing cleaner and faster, lasting twice as long as other high-performance abrasives. This optimal mineral breakdown allows for a significantly longer lifespan than conventional abrasives. With these new sanding sheets, auto DIYers will be empowered to complete more body repair projects with fewer sheet changes, while applying significantly less pressure over a shorter amount of time.
