BISHOP INNOVATIONS INTRODUCES HOZEEZ
A Sensible Approach to Managing Aluminum Complications
By Shawn Collins, Senior Technical Service Engineer, 3M Automotive Aftermarket Division
Aluminum repairs in general are currently a hot topic and the subject of cross contamination between steel and aluminum is one of the first issues raised, and for good reason. The approach to controlling cross contamination is multi-faceted and requires a systemic plan.
First and foremost, it will be essential to separate the aluminum operations from the steel operations as much as possible. I say as much as possible because no matter how much effort you put into substrate separation, you will never be able to completely segregate these two processes. Many vehicles that have aluminum components also have steel components and vise versa, so complete separation is often impossible.

ST. PAUL, Minn. (November 3, 2015) – It may seem a bit odd for 3M to have a voice in an area that tends to receive ample input from all of the major paint companies. However, if we take a step back, it’s easy to see that 3M touches the repair at every step prior to and after the painting process. This unique perspective has allowed 3M to objectively observe the day-to-day challenges that are facing today’s paint departments.

3M Innovative Outdoor Booth Features Live Demos of Cubitron II Family of Products in a Variety Cutting, Grinding, and Paint Removal Applications with Automotive Industries Top Stars
ST. PAUL, Minn. (November 3, 2015) – In the collision repair industry, heavy duty metalworking can take its toll on tools, abrasive products and especially the collision repair professionals who use them. Key steps of the disassembly process such as weld removal, grinding, panel cutting/sectioning and paint removal quickly wear down traditional abrasive discs and file belts, causing technicians to have to repeatedly stop their work and replace them. The limited cut rate and life of some abrasives mean technicians have to exert more effort and use more product to achieve the desired results.
3M™ Flexible Abrasives Discs and Sheets Offer Flexibility and Versatility All In One
The Most Versatile Abrasive Product in the Industry
ST. PAUL, Minn. (November 3, 2015) – It’s hard to find one product that does it all and in any condition. 3M Automotive Aftermarket Division has come up with that all-around solution -- an abrasive product that can be used in practically any condition,
3M™ Flexible Abrasive Discs and Sheets provide the versatility to be used by machine or hand, wet or dry. They deliver the cut and performance of a traditional abrasive with added conformability and a softer feel to minimize burn-through. 3M™ Flexible Abrasive Hookit™ Sheets and Discs deliver added flexibility for hard-to-reach areas that will get the job done faster and better. Our coating technology allows for the disc to have a longer life and to be easily wiped clean, which helps prevent deep curly Qs that are difficult to buff out later in the process.

Innovative 3M™ PPS™ Color Match Film Is Applied Directly to Substrate,
Allows Hands-Free Viewing at Any Angle and a More Accurate Representation of Color
ST. PAUL, Minn. (November 3, 2015) – One of the most difficult challenges in collision repair shops today is achieving the perfect color match, particularly on curved panels. Until now, paint professionals had to hold a sprayout card in one hand to preview colors, making it very difficult to get an accurate representation of color from different angles, especially side-tone.
Now, 3M Automotive Aftermarket Division have revolutionized color matching with a simple, but innovative, solution -- new 3M™ PPS™ Color Match Film that is applied directly to the vehicle and allows the painter to evaluate the colors from any angle and distance.
