Gale Banks and Mike Ryan discuss the build and running of Ryan’s Banks Super-Turbo Pikes Peak Freightliner at SEMA 2013 Press Conference
Azusa, California (November 1, 2013)—Gale Banks and Mike Ryan will team up once again at the 2013 SEMA Show to discuss the incredible build and the recent Pikes Peak “Race To The Clouds “ of the Super-Turbo Class 8 Freightliner. This press conference will be held on Tuesday, Nov. 5, at 3:30 p.m., at booth #61199, located in the Plaza in front of the Central Hall, near the Car Crazy stage. This a prime location for the race truck, which will surely attract large crowds during the Show.
The Banks Super-Turbo Pikes Peak Freightliner Cascadia 2400 plus horsepower racing machine of Mike Ryan, fresh off competition at the 2013 Pikes Peak International Hill Climb, is truly like no other Class 8 semi on the road. It competes in hill climb and drift competitions and currently holds records in both the Pikes Peak “Race To The Clouds” and the Mount Washington “Climb To The Clouds” events.
Ryan is not only a professional race driver, he has been a stunt driver and stunt coordinator in the film and entertainment industry since 1977. He has worked on more than 500 feature films, television shows and commercials, including such hits as “Terminator II” and “Fast & Furious 5 & 6.”
Banks installed its Super-Turbo concept, altitude compensating, forced air induction and control system, plus the Banks Straight-Shot™, Double-Shot™ and Triple Shot™ multistage-multipoint Methanol-Water Injection System on Ryan’s Freightliner. The addition of the Double-Shot and Triple-Shot Methanol-Water systems and the Double-Shot Auto-Chiller™ increases engine output by about 400 horsepower. The Straight-Shot Brake Cooling system dramatically improved braking capability.
This 14.0L Detroit Diesel 60 truck features a body that is constructed entirely of fiberglass and carbon fiber, even still weighing in at just over 5 tons. Like any well balanced race vehicle, it is a mid-engine design. This truck truly tests the merit of each and every one of its systems. Good acceleration requires a responsive engine, high speed requires massive horsepower and cornering and handling require extreme braking capability.
