BASF to showcase 1969 Talladega Torino GPT from Troy Trepanier at SEMA

What:
A 1969 Talladega Torino GPT Special, painted using BASF’s Glasurit 90-Line Tennessee Whisky Gold gloss and Daytona Sand satin.

When:
Nov. 5-8 at the BASF SEMA Booth #21441

Where:
The 2013 Specialty Equipment Market Association (SEMA) Show in Las Vegas

Background:
The GPT Special ‘69 Talladega has been three years in the making and is the best Street Machine ever to be completed by Rad Rides by Troy.

George Poteet's Torino is a design that focuses on what he and Troy felt their version of a Holman Moody Daytona-bound Talladega would have been like today.

The car‘s platform was based on a Art Morrison chassis with Ride Techs coil over shock assemblies and a Mark Williams Ultimate 9inch.The wheels are a one-off Billet Specialties wheel that emulate GT40 style with a brushed lip and powder coated center to give the appearance of a cast wheel. The fronts are 18X10 and the rears are 20X12 with Michelin Pilot Super Sports all around. The drive train is 532-inch Boss engine with a Rad Rides converted Hillborn intake to digital fuel injection, flowing through 3 in Flow Master exhaust and linked to a Bowler 5 speed manual transmission.

The Panel work is extensive: front fenders sloped and shortened 3 in, hand-built aluminum hood and scope, front and rear wheel openings, rear quarters flared out 1 1/2, rear spoiler, in-house front and rear bumpers, Rad Rides grill and tail light trim. All these changes give the overall Talladega proportions an aggressive aesthetic balance that has an appearance of 200 mph at rest.

The interior panel work was made removable so that the body could be removed to paint the chassis and cage the way it was done in that era. The rivets, oval punch flares, Rad Rides hand-built aluminum seats, in-house upholstery, roll cage and Classic Instruments Holman Moody gages complete the Talladega race car effect.

What draws you in at first glance is the Glasurit 90-line Tennessee Whiskey Gold Gloss on the bottom and Satin Daytona Sand on top. These hues are used throughout the project in different areas. Because of the high quality achieved with a full line of BASF products, the Talladega colors and finish are second to none. The fit and finish on this project challenges the rest of the industry to reach the level that BASF and Glasurit has already achieved.

The GPT Special’s appearances and accomplishments to date: Detroit Champion Ship Auto Best Street Machine, Power Tour, Bay Harbor Concourse winner, Auto Cross, Good Guys Street Machine of the year, Lucas Oil best of show, Hot August Nights best of show, Barret Jacksons Cup, Good Guys California to Texas rod run, Optima Ultimate street car Invitational and the Good Guys Terrific 12 award.
