Formula Drift 2013 Champion, Michael Essa, and his BMW “Ultimate Drift Machine” in BILSTEIN Booth #23361 at SEMA Show: Two autograph sessions scheduled on Wed., Nov. 6 at 3pm & Thurs., Nov. 7 at 11am

When Michael Essa was crowned 2013 Formula Drift Champion in front of a sold out crowd at Irwindale Raceway on October 12, he made history as the first privateer and first European car to win a Formula Drift championship. BILSTEIN is proud to be the shock absorber of choice for Essa’s team as well as one of his product sponsors. On hand during the 2013 SEMA Show in Las Vegas, Essa will be available to sign autographs and answer questions about his amazing season. His GSR Autosport BMW E46 M3 will also be on display in the BILSTEIN booth #23361 in the Central Hall of the Las Vegas Convention Center.

“Michael Essa and the GSR Autosport team are a perfect fit for BILSTEIN,” said Scott MacDonald, BILSTEIN director, marketing and product management. “We both have the desire to win and an extensive background in motorsports. We look forward to working with GSR and Michael in the future.”

Sitting on BILSTEIN double-adjustable MDS motorsports shocks, Essa’s BMW has a similar setup to many E46 M3 and Z4 GT racecars used in various sprint and endurance championships around the world. This was the first year on BILSTEIN shocks. It was also the first time in Formula Drift history that a team without factory support has taken the championship title. Furthermore, it was the first time that a European branded car was piloted to the overall win.

Essa’s skills go well beyond the driver’s seat. He is a talented mechanic and driving instructor and can be found most weekends at a racetrack offering instruction for both racers and drift drivers. GSR Autosport provides specialized maintenance, performance upgrades and setup services for BMW, Porsche, Mercedes and Audi racecars and streetcars.
