Eaton’s Aeroquip Performance StartLite Hose and Fittings Are Equipped on Unmanned Aircraft, Emphasizing Their Suitability for Severe-Duty Applications

EDEN PRAIRIE, Minn. October 29, 2012… Diversified industrial manufacturer Eaton Corporation today announced that its Aeroquip® Performance StartLite® hose and fittings, which have a long history on winning circle track and drag racing vehicles, are now used on Remotely Piloted Aircraft (RPA) made by General Atomics Aeronautical Systems, Inc. (GA-ASI) of Poway, California. The reliable performance of Eaton’s StartLite hose on RPA, which are used for intelligence, surveillance, reconnaissance, targeting, weapons delivery and more, emphasizes the product’s suitability for severe-duty applications.

Eaton’s Aeroquip Performance StartLite hose assists with fuel, oil and de-icing delivery on the RPA.

GA-ASI chose Eaton’s Aeroquip Performance hose based on StartLite characteristics that make it highly sought after by racing teams. The hose offers a lightweight design that makes it 45 percent lighter than stainless steel braided hose; and its flame retardant Nomex* and Kevlar* cover offers superior strength and excellent abrasion resistance, resulting in a 4:1 safety factor. In addition, it offers a +300°F maximum temperature rating and a 500-psi maximum operating pressure.

Also instrumental in GA-ASI’s selection of Eaton’s StartLite products was the fact that Eaton is able to back the engineering, testing and qualification of Aeroquip Performance products 100 percent by manufacturing its own hose and fittings – the only performance plumbing supplier to do so.

“GA-ASI’s selection of StartLite hose is a milestone achievement,” said Eaton’s Mike Rasnick, business development manager – Aeroquip Performance. “It enables Eaton to enter a new performance market that demands components that will function reliably and, in turn, further assures motorsports professionals – who are constantly pushing the envelope in vehicle performance – that StartLite hose and fittings offer optimum functionality.”
