AEROSPACE TECHNOLOGY SOLVES GROWING CORROSION PROBLEM IN CARS
Bonding Solutions Introduces New Thin-Film Aerosol Corrosion Inhibiting Compounds

Salt Lake City, UT 9/30/11 - Restoring factory-level corrosion protection to auto body repairs has long been a problem. The increasing use of thinner, but stronger metals by OEMs to reduce weight and improve gas mileage makes preventing corrosion even more critical. With less metal to corrode, cars are at greater risk of structural failure. To meet this challenge, Bonding Solutions has introduced Like90 Corrosion Inhibiting Compounds (CIC) which use aerospace thin-film technology that is more effective and easier to use than traditional cavity waxes and weld thru primers. The system includes four aerosols, a 36” flexible spray wand and aluminum caddy.

According to Bill Kernahan, Bonding Solution’s Marketing Manager, providing effective corrosion protection is a growing concern and insurers are willing to pay for it. “Technicians always knew they were supposed to provide OEM-level protection, but until CIC and its thin-film technology, they just didn’t have a good way to do it,” Kernahan said. This same resin-based technology is used by aerospace manufacturers, airlines and the military to protect critical aircraft surfaces.

The system consists of (1) a non-conductive CIC Weld Thru that contains no zinc or copper which can promote corrosion, (2) CIC Wet: a self-healing tinted film, (3) CIC Dry: a clear dry film, (4) CIC Remover: for removing excess coating, and (5) a 36” Flex Wand with 360⁰ Spray Tip that allows application into hard-to-access areas such as pillars and jams. An aluminum caddy that can hang on a technician’s cart is also included.

CIC’s protective film lasts up to 4,000 hours in salt spray tests compared to 1,000 hours for traditional products and wicks into seams, gaps and areas other products cannot penetrate.
